Students' Knowledge Base Group is a non-profit student group funded in 1999, by students of BUTE's informatics faculty. Over the years, the group tested, developed or deployed various leading edge, mainly open source ICT collaboration platforms. By 2006 the knowledge base consists of 3 web portals and dozens of e-mail lists, only the static content overwhelms the Encilopedia Britannica in size. The 3500 students of the faculty generate 100,000's of visits and 1,000's of submissions monthly.

Overview

Students' Knowledge Base Group is a non-profit student group funded in 1999, by students of BUTE's informatics faculty. Over the years, the group tested, developed or deployed various leading edge, mainly open source ICT collaboration platforms. By 2006 the knowledge base consists of 3 web portals and dozens of e-mail lists, only the static content overwhelms the Encilopedia Britannica in size. The 3500 students of the faculty generate 100,000's of visits and 1,000's of submissions monthly.

The group's innovative concept of community lifelong learning was demonstrated at students' conference (???) 2006, winning award. (???)

Market

Looking around in our environment, we see several faculties, small and middle sized companies struggling with collaboration and knowledge organizing, sharing. These communities are calling out for solutions that could be easily achieved with the know-how of the group.

Products

Our know-how, and innovative ways of IT aided communcation, knowledge sharing and orginizing will be offered in three forms:

  • Training
    • This includes on-line and classroom courses about user and maintenance skills and also about the collaborative approach.
  • Consulting
    • During our labor, we had to make some decisions regarding technology and organization that only had measurable effect in six months. Consulting with us would help planning and cut down risks.
  • Hosting
    • On our well functioning infrastucture is capable of hosting other collaboration platforms, and can be expanded easily.

Technology

The group - due to non-profit - specialized itself in open source, free technologies, linux based mailing lists, wikis, blog engines and document repositories. Thus, we offer cheap solutions, no software investment is needed.

Team, Background

The group consists of 15 elite students of informatics and economy, with experience in software development, maintenance, training, creating training materials, web design, public relations and management. Through student relationships the team can be radically expanded with similarly talented and buoyant members.

In short term, we expect customers from the students related non-profit sector, through our relationships with (hallgatói önkormányzat), which will help us to perfect our products. Later these products will be customized to the needs of companies, and offered to them.
